WHAT IS A POSTPARTUM DOULA?
As your doula, I am trained to offer compassionate physical, emotional and informational support for your whole family. Caring for a newborn while recovering from birth, learning to feed your baby, fitting in appointments, juggling and interacting with visitors and family members and perhaps thinking about heading back to work shortly all with little sleep...can leave one feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. Studies have shown that the rates of postpartum mood and anxiety disorders are lower, nursing success (if this is the method you choose to feed your baby) is higher and the overall parental adjustment is better with adequate support in the postpartum period. Sometimes the need for a doula becomes more obvious a few months down the road and that's okay, too. No matter your situation, my primary goal in supporting you is to leave you feeling seen, heard and more empowered than when we first start working together.
A LITTLE ABOUT COURTNEY
My passion is helping parents discover or enhance their own innate parenting abilities during the weeks and months following the arrival of a new baby. In 2011, I learned about doula work and was instantly intrigued and knew that some day I would become a doula myself. I found the amazing benefit of having a birth doula for both of my births and a postpartum doula after the birth of my daughter. These individuals supported and nurtured me during the most amazing transitions in my life. In 2016, I completed my DONA approved postpartum doula training through the Simkin Center for Allied Birth Professionals at Bastyr University. Three years later, I finally felt ready to leave my administrative career and follow my calling to support families walking through their own unique parenting journeys. In 2019, I completed two certifications including my Postpartum Doula Certification with NAPS (Northwest Association of Postpartum Support) my Lactation Educator Certification with Evergreen Perinatal Education. I am tremendously grateful for all my life experience that has led me to this work. I enjoy spending time with my partner and children, being in nature, belly laughing while watching stand up comedy, traveling, attending live music concerts, connecting with my friends and embracing the beauty of life. I have an eclectic taste in music, I enjoy dancing, I've seen every episode of FRIENDS (multiple times) and truly enjoy getting to know people on a deep level. Most of all, I love who I am.
